14 Call Center Interview Questions & Answers

The call center industry is one of the fastest growing in the country these days. As recently as ten years ago, there were only a few call center agents and the word call center was hardly ever used in the country. Today, almost every family has at least one member working in the call center industry. The reason for this boom is partly economics. In the Philippines, low paying jobs are very notorious and while call centers set up shop here because of the low labor costs, Filipinos decide to work for the call center industry because it pays higher than average wages. Consider this: if you are an average worker with an entry level position, you probably are getting paid seven to ten thousand a month; meanwhile, an average employee in the call center industry with an entry level position will get around fifteen thousand pesos a month, plus free dental and health benefits (HMO). Call centers also will pay your SSS (Social Security), PAGIBIG (home building fund), and PhilHealth (health ins...

Discovering a Different Perspective on Sulu's Struggle for Independence

When I was still working, I remember reading an article about how people from Sulu wrote to the Philippine congress, opposing being part of what was about to become the Philippine republic. I recall sending it to my coworker, who told me that the Moros were correct to oppose being part of the Philippines.

Today, I tried looking for that article but couldn't. Instead I found several articles about the Carpenter-Kiram treaty and how a group in Sulu (as well as the Sulu Sultanate) is calling for the revival of the said agreement through a congressional act.

According to this article, the US actually governed Mindanao and Sulu separately from Luzon and Visayas. This brings to mind the UK where (if I'm not mistaken), the king governs scotland separately as well. I remember reading about this several years ago and this is the reason why the king has a different title in Scotland.

Another revelation was that the Spanish actually never relinquished control of the entire Sulu Archipelago and continued to maintain their presence in some areas of Sulu even after the Treaty of Paris was signed. In fact, it took another treaty called Cession of Sulu and Its Underlying Islands where the Spanish were paid $100,000 by the Americans for them to take over. And if I remember correctly, it is also this treaty that makes our claim over Spratlys legal.

If successful, revival of the Carpenter-Kiram treaty would mean restoration of Mindanao and Sulu's status as a protectorate of the United States.

The Philippine Republic did a great disservice to the people of Sulu. This was a culture with a 400 year history and in the parlance of the game Civilization, they were not a "puny" civilization. Yes, this was a country far more mature than the Philippine republic would ever be which was conceived only in 1946 or even in 1898 if that is how you wish to perceive it.

If history is any indication, I think there is a good chance that this issue would be tackled by the Trump administration since it was under his first term that the Balangiga bells were returned.

After several tries of using different keywords, I finally found an article that does mention the Moros petitioning not to be part of the Republic of the Philippines before its independence. However, this article puts the intentions behind these petitions into question. Since the Moros (as well as the Filipinos) were against US occupation, why were they suddenly "Pro US"?

Were the Moro elites simply paying lip service when they claimed to be against US occupation? Perhaps they were all the while benefitting from it?

When I read this article, I realized that the popular opinion among the Moros was probably anti US occupation but the elites could have secretly been gaining from it. Certainly, in the beginning, even the elites could have been Anti US but everyone has a price and later secretly became Pro US.

Today, people are more aware of how the US operates and this scenario is definitely not impossible.

I wonder how the masses reacted to the petitions? Did the elites embark on a campaign to make it look like being under the Philippine Republic would be worse than being under the US?

The last Philippine president that would officially recognize the Sultanate of Sulu was Former President Marcos Sr. After the death of Sultan Mohammed Mahakuttah Kiram, the Royal House of Sulu descended into a civil war with several heirs vying for the throne.
