Spending good money to watch fireworks is one of my guilty pleasures in life. Well, who doesn't like fireworks? I mean I always thought that they were the closest that man has ever gotten to recreating sunrises and sunsets.
Difference Between Silver, Gold, VIP, and Patron with Dinner
My friend and I have been watching the Philippine International Pyromusical Competition at SM MOA almost every year since 2010. The first time, we just watched it from afar because we didn't want to pay for a ticket. But over the past few years, we were able to watch the Philippine International Pyromusical Competition with a Silver, Gold, VIP, and Patron with Dinner ticket.
The Silver ticket will not give you a good vantage point. It is crowded and there are no chairs. The worst thing about it is that you don't see the entire fireworks display because you can only see the ones at the top but you do get to hear the music being played (which is the only difference between the Silver ticket and watching without a ticket from afar).
The Gold ticket allows you to see some of the fireworks which are ground-level but there are still no seats available.
Although there will be some sight obstructions like the flagpoles and the barriers, the VIP ticket gives you a good vantage point because you will be able to see the ground-level and aerial fireworks. But the best thing about the VIP ticket is that you will be given a chair. :-)
Purchasing certain products will give you a free ticket to the Philippine International Pyromusical Competition but take note that these are not the same location as the regular tickets being sold.
After giving it much thought, we tried out the Patron with Buffet Dinner this year. It was our first time so we didn't know what to expect. We purchased our ticket from Metrodeal so we were able to save twenty percent. I was already expecting that the food wouldn't be good since it looked like they just hired some food catering service for the event which doesn't really have a name to live up to, and I was right! The dinner buffet started past six in the evening but they were only handing out the nachos, popcorn and iced tea (obviously it's a trick of theirs so that you won't eat too much when it comes to the main course ;p). There were three buffet tables but when they served the main course, one of the buffet tables had a very long line and the other two didn't. Unfortunately, I was at the buffet table with a very long line so I had to wait for almost an hour! As for the food, none of it was special. They all tasted bad or just okay. Needless to say, the buffet was very disorganized and definitely not worth the money. I would say that you're probably paying for the best vantage point (no craning of necks) and the food is just something extra if you purchase the Patron with Dinner ticket.
Next year, we'll be trying out the restaurants on the second-floor veranda. For almost the same price as the Patron with Dinner ticket, you can reserve a seat at one of these restaurants and you will either get a packaged meal set (which I assume is the same price as the ticket) or you will be able to order food the same price as the ticket (consumable). I have a feeling that the veranda is a much better location for watching the Philippine International Pyromusical Competition because you won't have to look up too much to watch the aerial fireworks (since you're already at the second floor). I also think that it's a much better deal since you'll be getting food (which I assume will be better because they would have a reputation to take care of) that is worth the same price as the ticket so the fireworks display is already basically for free. :-)
Instead of the Patron with Dinner ticket, I think it's also better to just eat dinner before watching the show or just buy food from outside and bring that with you. Make sure to buy tickets from Metrodeal (no, they're not paying me to say that). I bought my ticket from Metrodeal several times already to watch the Philippine International Pyromusical Competition and I am happy to report that I didn't encounter any difficulties in redeeming the tickets.
The Philippine International Pyromusical Competition attracts thousands of people every year and egress is not as easy as ingress. Over the years, I realized that it's better to just wait for thirty minutes before exiting and not to try to beat the crowd.
Some songs, I think, go best while watching fireworks. Whenever I listen to these songs, I always imagine that there are fireworks going off in the background. Some of these fantasies of mine already came true during previous Philippine International Pyromusical Competition shows when some countries used
Time To Say Goodbye and
Falling Slowly. However, I think this year was really epic because UK used
Heart Of Courage which is my absolute favorite! For me, watching fireworks with music in the background is an experience similar to watching an opera, it almost brings tears to my eyes.
