The call center industry is one of the fastest growing in the country these days. As recently as ten years ago, there were only a few call center agents and the word call center was hardly ever used in the country. Today, almost every family has at least one member working in the call center industry. The reason for this boom is partly economics. In the Philippines, low paying jobs are very notorious and while call centers set up shop here because of the low labor costs, Filipinos decide to work for the call center industry because it pays higher than average wages. Consider this: if you are an average worker with an entry level position, you probably are getting paid seven to ten thousand a month; meanwhile, an average employee in the call center industry with an entry level position will get around fifteen thousand pesos a month, plus free dental and health benefits (HMO). SINAG: Sun Life's Financial Literacy Digital Journalism Awards

It was an afternoon filled with gaiety, food, and goodwill to men. 

I arrived at the Manila Polo Club for the Sinag awarding ceremony at exactly 11:30 AM. I initially wanted to take mass transportation (just to show that I practice what I preach) but was thankful that I didn't once I arrived at the venue and realized what a long walk it would've been from the gate of the Manila Polo Club.

Sinag is Sun Life's Financial Literacy Digital Journalism Awards. It is part of Sun Life's advocacy to make every Filipino financially literate. 

I'm happy that I got to meet big names in the personal finance industry like Randell Tiongson and Fiitz Villafuerte (I was actually starstruck). I also met fellow personal finance bloggers like Lianne Martha Laroya of thewiseliving.com. Most of them are already RFPs (Registered Financial Planner) and even have their own books. I think I was the only one with a day job.

The first runner-up was Noem Lardizabal-Dado (aboutmyrecovery.com), and this blog was the second runner-up. The winner was Rose Fres Fausto (fqmom.com). 

I didn't really expect to win anything because this blog isn't even dedicated to personal finance and I don't even have my own domain name. The truth is, I only began blogging about personal finance topics a few months ago. Though personal finance is one my great passions in life, I have always thought that other blogs are already doing a good job of spreading financial awareness. Recently however, I realized that there are some personal finance topics which are not covered by newbie friendly articles. I could describe Comic Relief in two words: cutting edge. Gone now are the times when all the Chabacano songs that we hear were about the place itself. We finally heard a pop song in Chabacano. What's great is that it's not just any Chabacano pop song, it's a good one too. I read somewhere that this song was used in a Zarzuela entitled De Cavite A Zamboanga . In this Zarzuela , a Caviteña sings this song to her boyfriend who is going to Zamboanga. This is probably why there are versions wherein this song is titled No Te Vayas A Zamboanga . In fact, the English version of this song is translated from No Te Vayas A Zamboanga (Don't you go to far Zamboanga). This title however doesn't sit well among Zamboang
