14 Call Center Interview Questions & Answers

The call center industry is one of the fastest growing in the country these days. As recently as ten years ago, there were only a few call center agents and the word call center was hardly ever used in the country. Today, almost every family has at least one member working in the call center industry. The reason for this boom is partly economics. In the Philippines, low paying jobs are very notorious and while call centers set up shop here because of the low labor costs, Filipinos decide to work for the call center industry because it pays higher than average wages. Consider this: if you are an average worker with an entry level position, you probably are getting paid seven to ten thousand a month; meanwhile, an average employee in the call center industry with an entry level position will get around fifteen thousand pesos a month, plus free dental and health benefits (HMO). Call centers also will pay your SSS (Social Security), PAGIBIG (home building fund), and PhilHealth (health ins

Which Digital Banks in the Philippines are Profitable?

Recently, the central bank of the Philippines issued a statement that only 2 out of the 6 digital banks in the Philippines are profitable. They further explained that they expected digital banks to become profitable after only 5 to 7 years of operation. Since they declined to disclose the names of the 2 digital banks that are currently profitable, people are asking which of the digital banks could the BSP be referring to?

Owned by the Landbank, Overseas Filipino Bank or OF Bank is the first digital bank licensed and approved by the BSP. While I can't find any articles online about its profitability, it is highly likely that OF Bank is one of the two profitable digital banks in the Philippines since it is government-owned and the first one to operate. Aside from that, it did not start from scratch. Operating as a thrift bank prior to having its banking license converted into a digital bank license, it used to be known as the Philippine Postal Savings Bank. However, as far as its 2022 financial statement (the latest one posted on their website) is concerned, OF Bank has not yet reached profitability.

The second digital bank is Tonik Bank. It is backed by venture capitalists such as Mizuho bank and Point72 Ventures. Based on information found online, it sounds like Tonik has already reached unit-level profitability and are currently leveraging technology to reach company-level profitability.

The third digital bank to obtain a license from the central bank is PLDT's Maya Bank. They are currently still trying to break even.

Meanwhile, Gokongwei's GoTyme is expecting to be profitable by 2027.

For now, there is only one digital bank that has confirmed to the media that they are profitable and that is Union Digital Bank.

Having started operations in 2023, Uno Bank understandably is not yet profitable.

While not licensed as a digital bank by the BSP, there are some banks operating as such that have recently gained profitability.

Sea Bank which is owned by Shopee announced recently that they have achieved profitability. Formerly known as Banco Laguna, it is licensed as a rural bank.

CIMB Philippines also announced profitability this year and is even eyeing an IPO in the future.

Based on this information, we can conclude that Union Digital Bank is definitely one of the six digital banks that is profitable. Unfortunately, there is not enough information online to tell which one is the second digital bank that has reached profitability.

Digital banks are banks that operate without physical branches and whose services are accessed through an application in a smartphone. Currently, there are only 6 banks operating under a digital bank license in the Philippines.
