I think it's very important to preserve the Chavano and don't let it die, because it's part of your history and culture, this is one of the few spanish-creole languages that are still spoken in the world and it should remains being spoken in Cavite and Zamboanga as it's part of your cultural identity. The chabacano it's an unique language in your country. I hope your government and the people who still speak it can do something to solve this problem and to keep it.

You're right, Chabacano of Cavite seems closer to Spanish than Chabacano of Zamboanga, above all if we write the question this way:
Chabacano de Zamboanga: Cosa ta hace si Gina?
Chabacano de Cavite: Cosa ta haci Gina?
Spanish: ¿Qué está haciendo Gina? (¿Qué hace Gina?)
On the other hand, it's regrettable to read that Chabacano of Zamboanga is at risk of disappearing, or that Chabacano of Cavite has practically disappeared. Things could really change in the near future, hopefully!!!

Things can change if something is to be done. The problem is people don't realize the uniqueness of Chabacano. Our Chabacano is the only Spanish creole in Asia. Yes, that is how important it is and precious it is.

@ Ramon Es verdad que también tenemos que escribir en Chabacano. El problema es el juventud de Zamboanga no reciben educaccion formal en el Chabacano. Yo mismo no escribo bien en Chabacano. Aunque puedo entender Chabacano hondo.

Great Article! With the same mission in mind, to try to preserve this beautiful dialect of ours, Chabacano! I recently made a Community Forum that is intended for that purpose. Everyone in the forum must speak our dialect Chabacano. So, I hope you will support our Forum, I called it, Zambochat.com! Excuse the Cavitenos, but now that I've seen that we are not alone, I'm planning to create sub-forums for Cavitenos, too! So, we may welcome them all! I hope our visitors will support this new born Forum, too!

hi! i've grown up in zamboanga, but sad to say i still can't speak the dialect. we are bisaya here at home and we speak filipino in school. but the situation has changed when i stepped into college, since it was a public university. now, i can understand the dialect. but it's still difficult for me to actually practice what i learned.
i just want to point it out. speaking chavacano wasn't really stressed here. when i went to cebu, everyone was talking in cebuano, it was kinda embarrassing to talk in another dialect. but here in zamboanga, it wasn't like that. everyone talks in filipino. and other dialects (bisaya, tausug, chavacano) are all too common too. you don't feel the need to learn the other dialects. maybe that's what's lacking here in zamboanga.
